Cattle would eventually starve to death on a diet of straight ensiled straw.
Straw has almost no nutritive value and not enough moisture to ferment when ensiled (and even if it did you would just have straw silage which still contains almost no nutrition). I never tried it in 15 but I'll take your word for it.
